Despite the name, there's no duck in our Duck Sauce, and no meat of any kind. Our customers tell us it has a nice orange note and a good balance of salty and sweet, plus a little something special. Many of them keep it as their go-to dip for homemade dumplings, and some even dip pork chops in it. Whether you're craving takeout classics or experimenting in your own kitchen, our duck sauce delivers authentic taste in every bite.

The 8 fl oz bottle is shelf stable until you open it; after that, keep it in the fridge. Give it a good shake before pouring, and use the flip-top to pour out just the amount you want.

At Dumpling Daughter, we grew up on Chinese cooking: my parents owned Sally Ling's, Boston's most renowned 5-star Chinese restaurant, and Sundays meant wrapping dumplings at grandma's house. We opened the first Dumpling Daughter in my hometown in 2014 to share homestyle Chinese comfort food with people who couldn't easily find it. Our dumplings and buns, which you can enjoy at home too, make a natural match for this sauce. Our mission is making people happy, one dumpling at a time.

Common Questions

What is duck sauce made of?
Our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce is made from liquid sugar, apricot puree concentrate, apple juice concentrate, lime juice concentrate, orange juice concentrate, vinegar, ascorbic acid and rowan berry extract. Duck sauce in general is a sweet-and-sour fruit condiment from American Chinese takeout, usually built on apricot or plum. Ours follows the apricot tradition, with apple, lime and orange concentrates rounding out the fruit base. Shoppers often notice the orange and describe a good balance of salty and sweet with a little something special.

Does duck sauce have duck in it?
There is no duck or any other meat in our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce. The name is usually traced to the sauce being served with roast duck in Chinese American restaurants. The sauce itself is fruit, sugar and vinegar, and ours starts from apricot puree concentrate.

Is duck sauce spicy?
Duck sauce is traditionally sweet and tangy with no heat, and our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce is made the same way. Our ingredient list has no chili or pepper. The tang comes from vinegar and lime juice concentrate. A few shoppers have asked about heat, and others who have tried it confirm it isn't spicy.

What's the best dipping sauce for egg rolls and crab rangoon?
Duck sauce is the classic takeout dip for egg rolls and crab rangoons, and we made our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce for them, along with scallion pancakes. It's our take on the classic Chinese sauce, and the bottle calls it a Famous Family Recipe. Shoppers tell us it's an upgrade over the plain packet sauce that comes with takeout.

What else can I use Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce on?
Beyond dipping, our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce works as a glaze on chicken, pork or seafood, and as a drizzle over rice or noodles. It also suits dumplings, potstickers, spring rolls and stir fry. Many shoppers make it their go-to sauce for homemade dumplings, and some dip pork chops in it or use it with wonton strips and fried rice dishes. A few even picture it on buttered toast or muffins. If you want a ready match, we also make dumplings and buns you can enjoy at home.

How do I store Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce, and how big is the bottle?
Our Dumpling Daughter Duck Sauce is shelf stable until you open it, and it goes in the refrigerator once opened. The bottle holds 8 fl oz (237 mL) and measures about 2.83 x 2.99 x 6.85 inches. Shoppers recommend a good shake before each use, and they like the flip-top cap for pouring just the amount they want.
