Common Questions

What chips have less fat than regular potato chips?
Our Dang Toasted Sesame Thai Rice Chips have 25-35% less fat than regular potato chips, by our own comparison. Most of the fat in a chip comes from the oil it's cooked in, so the base and the cooking method matter more than the flavor. Ours are crunchy mini rice cakes made from Thai sticky-rice grains instead of sliced potatoes. The oil we use is responsibly-sourced palm fruit oil.

What are Thai rice chips and how are they made?
Our Dang Toasted Sesame Thai Rice Chips are crunchy mini rice cakes made with Thai rice grains instead of a dough or a sliced vegetable. We soak Thai sticky-rice grains in watermelon juice and coconut milk, then crisp them up to bring out the flavor of toasted rice, true to the original Thai recipe. That recipe comes from our mom. My brother and I are Thai-American and started Dang around it. For this flavor we add toasted white and black sesame seeds.

What chips are gluten-free and vegan?
Our Dang Toasted Sesame Thai Rice Chips are gluten-free, vegan and Non-GMO Project Verified. When you're shopping for chips that are both, the base is rarely the problem. Wheat and dairy tend to show up in the seasonings, such as malt vinegar, cheese powders or buttermilk. Every ingredient in ours comes from a plant or is salt: sticky rice, white sesame, cane sugar, palm fruit oil, black sesame, coconut milk, watermelon juice and salt [P-ingredients].

What do Dang Toasted Sesame Rice Chips taste like? Are they sweet?
Dang Toasted Sesame Rice Chips are wholly toasty and a little nutty, with a touch of sweetness. The toasted white and black sesame seeds give the crispy rice a savory, naturally sweet nuttiness. They're also sweetened with cane sugar, the third ingredient. The crunch comes from the crisped rice grains, and there's a little salt too[P-ingredients].

Do Dang Toasted Sesame Rice Chips contain sesame or coconut?
Yes, Dang Toasted Sesame Rice Chips contain both sesame and coconut. The ingredient list includes white sesame and black sesame. It also includes coconut milk, and coconut is classed as a tree nut. Sesame and tree nuts are both among the major US food allergens.
