Our sea salt butter can be used for almost anything! Spread it on warm bread, melt it over veggies or pasta, or reach for it in any recipe where you don't need to control the salt. It has the character of old-world European butter, and its color changes with the seasons. It's made in the United States.

At Minerva Dairy, we're America's oldest family-owned creamery, and we've been eating, sleeping and dreaming of butter for over 130 years. Max Radloff started it all in 1894 at age 21, and we still make the same butter that launched our family business. Our Nana Lorraine famously told us that "there's not much in life that can't be made better with butter," so get in the kitchen and add butter!

Ingredients: Pasteurized Cream, Sea Salt.

Common Questions

What butter has the highest butterfat content?
Our Minerva Dairy Salted Butter Roll is 85% butterfat, well above the 80% minimum that U.S. standards require for anything sold as butter. Most everyday American stick butter sits close to that 80% line, and European-style butters are often 82% or a little higher. More butterfat means less water, which gives a richer texture, less spattering in the pan and flakier pastry. We credit that 85% for our butter tasting creamier, richer and more flavorful than other brands. At Minerva Dairy, we've been making the same butter since Max Radloff started our family business in 1894.

What is roll butter?
Roll butter is butter churned in batches and packed into a log instead of molded into sticks, and our Minerva Dairy Salted Butter Roll is a 2 lb roll made exactly that way. Packing butter in a roll is the old-fashioned way batch-churned butter was packaged. The batch-churn method gives it the character of old-world European butter, and its color changes with the seasons. Roll butter is usually sold by the pound in larger logs, so it suits households that bake and cook with a lot of butter.

Should I buy salted or unsalted butter?
Choose salted butter, like our Minerva Dairy Salted Butter Roll, when you want butter that's ready for the table and everyday cooking, and choose unsalted when a recipe needs exact control over salt. We season this roll with sea salt, and it's great spread on bread, melted over veggies or tossed with pasta. It also works in any recipe where you don't need to manage the salt yourself. For delicate baking, many cooks prefer unsalted because salt levels vary from brand to brand. For that kind of baking we make Minerva Dairy Unsalted Butter, a separate item that lets the sweet cream flavor come through in baked goods and home-cooked meals.

What is in Minerva Dairy Salted Butter Roll, and is it dairy free?
Our Salted Butter Roll has two ingredients: pasteurized cream and sea salt. Because it's made from cream, it is a dairy product and contains milk, so it is not dairy free or vegan. At Minerva Dairy, our creamery's milk comes from about 12,000 cows on local family farms, enough to supply both our butter and our cheese. It's made in the United States.

How many cups of butter are in a 2 lb roll?
A 2 lb Minerva Dairy Salted Butter Roll holds 32 oz of butter, which is about 4 cups, the same amount as eight standard 4 oz sticks. By weight that works out to roughly 64 tablespoons and just over 900 grams. When a recipe calls for one stick, cut off 4 oz; when it calls for a cup, cut off 8 oz.

How do I slice and store a 2 lb roll of butter?
Our 2 lb Salted Butter Roll slices most cleanly straight from the fridge with a sharp knife, or with a length of unflavored dental floss looped around the log and pulled through to make even rounds. If the butter is very firm, dip the knife in hot water and wipe it dry before each cut. Many butter lovers divide the roll into portions when they open it, keep one in the fridge and wrap the rest tightly for the freezer, since butter freezes well and thaws overnight in the refrigerator.

Does Minerva Dairy sell butter sticks as well as rolls?
Yes, we make our butter in 2 lb rolls like this one and in 8 oz cartons that hold two 4 oz quarter sticks. The roll gives you four times as much butter in one piece, which makes sense for big baking days and kitchens that go through butter quickly.
