What kind of grass do you grow?
We get that question a lot. Do you grow marijuana, hahaha? No. Do you grow sod? No. Then perplexed faces.
The few who know, know. We based our farm name off of the periodical “The Stockman Grass Farmer” and all the farmers who called themselves grass farmers. We were aware of farms named “Grass Run Farm” and “All Grass Farms.” And grassfed beef was all the rage. It seemed appropriate and simple to name our farm Nelson Grass Farm.
We basically grow forages. Not just grasses. Our main goal is the grow forages that livestock will want to eat and is nutritious. We want low maintenance perennial pastures. And we maintain those pastures with livestock. Bonus, those livestock produce meat and eggs that we sell as pasture raised because of our intensive rotation practices.
The really awesome part, is we improve our soil health while doing all that! We are passionate about working with nature, to be a steward of our land. So, we call ourselves grass farmers.
