FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order?

You can find all of the items raised at our farm under the Nelson Grass Farm brand of our store. Simply add these items to an upcoming delivery before the cut off for ordering and your order will be automaticallyprocessed at the cut off date indicated and delivered right to your home!

How do deliveries work?

All of the items you order from our store will be delivered in insulated bags that we ask you return by placing out for us to pickup at the next delivery. As appropriate, we will include gel packs that we freeze to keep things cold in the summer, or heat to keep things warm in the winter!  Please be sure to return these as well.

The day before your delivery, you will receive an email letting you know the approximate time we will arrive and you'll also receive a text message once the items are delivered.

Do I need to be home for my delivery?

You do not need to be home for your delivery, your items will be delivered in insulated cooler bags which will keep your food safely temperature controlled for the day.  Please be sure to tell us any special notes for your driver like where to leave your items, special parking instructions, or how to gain access to a condo or  apartment  building so we can pickup your return items and leave your groceries in a secure area.

Are you a certified organic farm?

No, but we do follow organic standards and feed transitional organic feeds along with forages from our farm that are free of GMO's, pesticides and herbicides.

Can I come visit the farm?

Yes! Contact us to set up a time that works for both of us. We love showing people around the farm and sharing our passion for regenerative farming.

What about being pasture-raised in the winter in Minnesota?

We raise our broiler chickens and pigs during the growing season and fill up our freezer to supply our customers in the winter.

We keep our laying hens all winter long because their lay cycle is 12 months at a time. We bring them inside our winter building with deep bedding that composts the manure and wood chips, providing some warmth. They have access to the outside when the temperatures are above zero. And we supplement them with dried forages, like hay, all winter.

Can I pay with Paypal or Venmo?

No, you can pay using a credit card or ideally ACH on our website. Please try to pay with ACH to help lower our credit card costs and help us keep our pricing as low as possible.

Why do you offer other farmers' items and grocery items?

We are a founding partner of a Regional Food System which seeks to make better raised food more accessible to Minnesotans by collaborating with others aligned with our mission. By purchasing other farmers' items from us, you will be supporting their work, help us keep delivery costs low, and enjoy better raised food than you can find at any grocery store.

We also offer a wide selection of grocery items, which are competitively priced.  By purchasing these items from us instead of the grocery store, you also help keep our delivery and other logistical costs low.  This enables the Regional Food System to operate in a sustainable way so we can expand the local food system.

In addition, by purchasing all of your groceries from our store, you will lower the carbon footprint of the food system. It is much more environmentally friendly to have all of our local and non-local groceries delivered from a central facility because it reduces the number of big trucks and individual car trips required.

Are your ready-to-eat meals healthy?  What should I expect from them?

As part of the Regional Food System, you will see many ready to eat meals from the TC Farm brand. These are made using local and organic ingredients from many different farmers in the area as well as specialty ingredients which are much higher quality than what you'd find at a restaurant or in other pre-made meals.

All of the Regional Food System meals are made from scratch just like you or I would make them in our own kitchens. There are no funny ingredients or shortcuts.

Typically you will find they cost about the same as take-out from a restaurant, but you'll appreciate the flavor and health of having pasture-raised meats, organic ingredients and made-from scratch quality.

Some meals are very easy to prepare, just pop in the oven or microwave and dinner is ready.  Others you will want to make up some rice or pasta, or maybe a side dish.  But for the most part very little final prep work is required on any of the meals.
